Children are especially welcome at Wimberley United Methodist Church! Leading Christian educators believe that faith is “caught” and not “taught.” What better way for children to know what faith is all about than to be a full time member of a community!
At Wimberley UMC, we believe:
God put the wiggle in children - don’t feel you have to suppress it in God’s house.
Explain quietly to children the parts of the worship service.
Help your child find pages in the Hymnal or to follow along on the screen.
It is OK if they stand on the pew to see and to sing!
Sing the hymns, pray and voice the responses. Children learn good behavior in church by copying yours.
Remember that we ALWAYS welcome children in church! Let them know that they are at home and have an extended “family” in church.
Each year there are many opportunities for children to be involved in different programs and ministries. We strive to help children and families take the love of Christ to a different level. Some of the programs include Children's Sunday, Pumpkin Patch, Fall Festival, Gingerbread House Event, Christmas Eve family service, and more.
The need of the Education Station seems to have shifted from its initial purpose of a place for students with little or no internet at home or children who couldn’t be left home alone while a parent worked, to offering organizational and productivity support for students and respite for parents.
We understand that trying to manage your child’s at home learning can lead to a lot of anxiety for both caregiver and student.
It doesn’t matter if you work at home and have great bandwidth, you still may need an educational partner right now. Maybe you need a couple days to work uninterrupted or get the grocery shopping done, or just sit quietly alone in your house with no demand for a couple hours. We get it and you are not in this alone.
We want to help alleviate some of the stress that is created by having your kiddos schooling at home.
We have fantastic volunteers who can help get and keep your child on track and productive. Most of our volunteers are former educators. We may not fix it all, but we’d sure like to help.
We currently are open Tuesday and Thursday for Synchronous and Asynchronous students. 7:45-3:30. To register email email@example.com. Space is limited to 18 students each day.
Please share this information with anyone who might benefit from this ministry.
Sunday School Classes
We put a lot of effort and thought and love into our children's classrooms and programs, which include loving and patient teachers. Please note that all of the Children's Sunday School classes listed below are currently not meeting due to Covid-19, but we anticipate being able to worship together again at our outdoor services in October. For more information, please visit our Home page or contact our Children's Ministry Director, Courtenay Kehl.
There are children's classes for the following age groups:
Ages Newborn to Three Years
Children in our nursery will start to learn that church is a fun and safe place full of people who love them and who want them to know all about God's love, too! The caring adults and youth on our nursery staff enjoy sharing stories, toys, and songs with the infants and toddlers. Meets in the First Steps Nursery beginning at 8:30 am each Sunday.
Sundays @ 10:00am
All children ages 4 years - 5th grade are welcome to participate in our W Kidz Sunday School program in the Education building.
Ages Four Years through Fifth Grade
During the 11:00 am Worship Service, children ages 4 years old - 5th grade are invited to leave with the Kidz Church teacher and join our Kidz Church, held in the Fellowship Hall every non-communion Sunday. Any who wish to go will be invited after the Pastor's greeting to go to the back of the Sanctuary and will return at the end of worship. This is the time where kids can explore their faith through a dramatic storytelling, games and activities related to that Sunday's passage.
Please note that on Communion Sundays (the 1st and 5th Sundays of every month), we want to encourage families to worship and share in the sacrament together. If you would like an extra set of loving hands to help with your children, please speak to an usher and someone from our Family Ministries Team will be happy to worship alongside you! Worship bags are also available for kids in the Worship area.
