Meet The Team

BBP Director
Matilda Long
Hi everyone! I have been the Director at Bright Beginnings Preschool (formerly Mother's Day Out) for 27 years and have worked with children for 34+ years. Before moving to Wimberley, I worked at Summitt Elementary School in Austin and served in leadership positions with the AISD PTA. I received my Child Care Professional Credential through the National Early Childhood Program Accreditation in 1998.
I was blessed to have two sons. My first son is married and he and my daughter-in-law have three girls, an eighth-grader, a sixth-grader, and a third-grader. My second son and his girlfriend have a darling dog that is like their child.
My favorite pastime is being outdoors. I love the ocean, collecting shells, and being on the water, fishing. Reading is how I like to end my day, and I also love watching my granddaughters play sports.
As Director of BBP, I take great pride in knowing that our center strives for excellence and offers our community a top quality childcare and Pre-K program. Being Director of Bright Beginnings Preschool is a true blessing!

My husband and I have lived here in Wimberley since 1991 and have two grown kids who graduated from WISD. I began working at BBP (then, "MDO") in 2005. When I'm not at work I spend a lot of time taking care of my plants and enjoying nature.
One thing I love about working with kids at BBP is seeing them come to us so little and watching them grow, learn, and become independent and knowing we were a part of that. It is such a satisfying and beautiful feeling. My favorite time of day with the kids is morning free play, especially in the play kitchen as they are taking care of babies and cooking. (Oh, the things they say!) I also love painting with them--art is my thing! I love creating new art for our walls, doors, and bulletin boards!

I graduated from Wimberley HS in 2007 and studied ASL for 3 years in KS. I started at BBP in 2020. I have two young kids, a son and daughter. Together, we enjoy reading, cooking, watching TV, and spending time outdoors.
Working with little kids is so much fun. The world is new and exciting for them. They have pure hearts and see things through a filter that society hasn't touched. Circle/story time is my favorite part of the day with them. It's awesome to see them excited and engaged and I'm glad to be a part of these important years for them!

I started working at BBP in 2023. I love working with kids because I love helping them learn and grow and listening to their adorable, funny conversations. They always make me smile! My favorite activities with the class are engaging with them during Center time and Playground time.

I attended the University of Texas @ Dallas and graduated in 2008 with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. My husband, Chance, and I live here in Wimberley and have three kids, Kaegen, Ansley, and Henley. We spend most of our time at the kids' various sporting events: basketball, softball, volleyball, track, and dance! During our free time we enjoy being outdoors as a family, traveling, trying new activities and foods, and exercising.
I started at BBP in 2024. I love being present at pick-up time, watching all the kids wake up and get so excited to see their parent picking them up. The smiles and giggles are priceless!

Pre-K Teacher / Curriculum Director

I first became acquainted with BBP as a mom, when my son (now in college!) attended Pre-K here. Our family loved the program and staff, so when I had the opportunity a couple years later to work here, I jumped at it! That was 2013. Time flies when you're having fun!
I went to high school in San Marcos and then earned my BA in Psychology from Texas State University. My husband, Jim, and I have three grown kids that went to school here in Wimberley--our daughters, Micaela and Kelsie, and our son, Peyton. Our three dogs (Duncan, Cooper, and Lola) round out our family.
I'm currently the Pre-K teacher and Curriculum Director here at BBP and I feel exceptionally blessed to spend my days teaching, singing, playing, and creating with these amazing kids!
In addition to teaching children, I also write for children! My two most recent titles are The Great Cookie Kerfuffle (2022) and Alice Alone (2025). When I'm not writing you can find me curled up with a good book, taking care of my (many!) beloved plants, or daydreaming about my next getaway to the beach!
